(May 27th, 2020 — Jersey City, NJ) Explore Middle School is excited to celebrate the success of 4 of their students in 2 contests held for Hudson County students.
6th grader Alison Turok, 7th grader Rafael Campo, and 6th Emma Sauerbrei took the top 3 places in the Hudson County School Counselor Association Middle School Essay Contest.
HCSCA invited all middle school students in Hudson County to enter an essay submission focused on a time when they encountered an obstacle or failure, how they handled it, and how it shaped them as a person.
Turok placed 1st, Campo 2nd, and Sauerbrei, 3rd. Each was awarded an Amazon gift card.
Explore guidance counselor, Mariel Teschlog shared, “I am so incredibly proud of the way that our students represented Explore Middle School in this county-wide competition. The theme of the essay contest was resiliency, which is an essential skill for all students to have, now more than ever. The contest committee was very impressed with the insights that our students shared about overcoming obstacles, as well as the descriptive qualities of their essays, which made each story resonate deeply with the readers.”
7th-grade Layza Velez entered Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez’s “How Much We Love Hudson County Drawing + Creativity Contest”.
Prosecutor Suarez invited Hudson County students to submit a work of art expressing their love for Hudson County.
Velez submitted a collection of 5 photographs and was selected as 1 of 4 winners from Jersey City. “I’m just so happy that I even had the opportunity to enter and showcase how amazing out county is!” she excitedly explained.
Principal Krone is proud of the work of all 4 students and thankful for their representation of Explore. “Thank you and congratulations to Layza who went above and beyond her traditional 7th grade curriculum and took the time to celebrate Hudson County, the county she is so proud to call home. And congratulations to our 3 winners in the HCSCA essay contest!”
