Students at Explore Middle School, under the leadership of Health teacher Ms. Norrey Benito, recently competed in the Health Occupation Students of America Virtual State Leadership Conference on March 20th and March 21st. HOSA members, including secondary and post-secondary/collegiate members, from all over the state are invited to partake in HOSA’s Competitive Events Program. Explore’s students competed in various events, including Middle School Medical Math and Middle School Medical Terminology.
Congratulations to the following winners:
- 7th grader Hilarya Ishaq won first place for Medical Terminology.
- 7th grader Melody Hartman Kelly won second place for Medical Terminology.
- 7th grader Rana Pathak won third place for Medical Terminology
- 7th grader Dmitri Sobolev won first place for Medical Math.
Hilarya expressed that she is so excited to be a member of HOSA. “I’m glad all of my studying and preparation paid off.”
Rana shared, “I studied and worked really hard. I am happy that my preparations helped me to place in the competition.”
Dmitri Sobolev also competed in the OSHA Awareness Exam and placed 4th in NJ, competing with post-secondary and collegiate students. He received a certificate to certify completion of the exam.
Ms. Norrey Benito reflected, “I am very proud of our HOSA students who participated in HOSA's State Leadership Conference this year. The students studied hard for their competitive events and showed outstanding performance. “
The winners are invited to the International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee to compete in the same events with other middle school students from around the world.
